U.S. House Intelligence Committee chair Adam Schiff, House Oversight Committee ranking member Jim Jordan, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer spoke about the first public impeachment hearing following its conclusion on Wednesday.
Schiff said an aide to Bill Taylor, who alleged they overheard a conversation between President Donald Trump and Gordon Sondland, was being deposed to testify in a closed hearing. Schumer said the information in the hearing showed why the impeachment inquiry should continue.
Republicans, however, continued their stance on the impeachment with Jordan saying he would like to hear from the whistleblower and that facts were on the president’s side. McConnell questioned why the House of Representatives could not bring forward bills like the USMCA forward for a vote as the Intelligence Committee conducts its hearing.
