Turkey and Russia strike deal over Syria

The presidents of Russia and Turkey have agreed a deal to share control of northeast Syria which would force the Kurds to withdraw beyond a so-called ‘safe zone’.

Turkey had paused its offensive against the Kurds – who they call terrorists – with the ceasefire due to expire.
