US mercenary says he planned to abduct Venezuelan president

A US mercenary has been detained in Venezuela after allegedly being ordered to abduct the country’s president Nicolás Maduro.
Venezuelan state media is broadcasting footage showing the former Special Forces soldier admitting his part in a botched bid to oust Venezuela’s president.
The US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo denies Washington knew of the attack insisting that, if they had, "it would have gone differently".
