David Holmes, a top staffer at the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, told House lawmakers that “now is not the time to retreat from our relationship with Ukraine, but rather to double down on it.” Holmes testified in the Trump impeachment inquiry on Nov. 21 before the House Intelligence Committee. The probe centers on a July 25 call in which President Donald Trump asked Ukraine’s president to investigate 2020 presidential candidate and former vice president Joe Biden and his son, Hunter. Lawmakers are also considering whether Trump withheld U.S. aid to Ukraine as a bargaining trip for those investigations.
